Home Charging

Wake up fully charged.

Skip the gas station entirely. Learn everything you need to know about installing and financing an EV charger at your Canadian home.

Why Home Charging is the Ultimate EV Perk

Unmatched Convenience

Over 80% of all EV charging happens at home. You simply plug in at night and wake up to a 100% full "tank" every single morning.

Massive Cost Savings

Charging at home during off-peak hours costs a fraction of what you would pay at a gas pump or a public fast-charger.

Battery Health

Slow, steady Level 2 AC charging at home is the absolute best way to preserve your EV's battery life over the long term.

What does it actually cost to set up?

Based on 2026 Canadian averages, here is what you can expect to pay for a standard Level 2 home charging setup.

  • The Hardware (The Charger)
    $500 - $1,200 CAD
  • Labor & ESA Permits
    $800 - $2,000 CAD
  • Total Average Setup
    $1,500 - $2,800 CAD

The "Panel Upgrade" Pro-Tip

If your home has an older 100-amp electrical panel, upgrading it can cost upwards of $3,500.

The Workaround: Ask your electrician to install an "EV Energy Management System" (EVEMS) or DCC box. For around $1,000, this smart box shares power with your stove or dryer, allowing you to completely bypass an expensive panel upgrade!

Free Money: How to offset your installation costs

🇨🇦The Federal Reality

The federal government offers huge rebates for buying the car itself, but they do not offer direct rebates for installing a residential home charger.

Get Paid to Charge (CFR Programs)

Because of Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR), several companies now offer cash-back rewards simply for plugging in your EV at home!

  • Grizzl-E Club:Provides members with 3¢ per kWh of energy consumed. Members can cover the $120 annual fee via cashback or get a refundable deposit on the charger.
  • ChargeLab Rewards:Offers $25 upfront for connecting an eligible smart charger, plus 3¢ per kWh for charging at home.
  • SWTCH Energy:Also offers 3¢ per kWh used to charge your EV at home, resulting in an estimated $100-$150 annually for average drivers.
